Some of aquarium plants have their very interesting story. Marimo ball is one of this plants.
Moss balls were first discovered in Lake Zell. In 1820s Dr. Anton E. Sauter found them in a small lake in Austrian Alps. Lake Zell is a freshwater lake and is about 60 metres deep. It is four kilometres long and about 1,5 kilometres wide. Lake is connected with river Salzach by one stream wchich flow out. A lot of small mountains streams flow into Lake Zell but only in summer. In winter Lake Zell is completely frozen.
