We fill our pond with fresh water. Two or three weeks later it becomes green with single-celled algae called Chlorophyta. Then we wonder what we did wrong and how to fight with them and. Our problem is not easy to solve. It turned out that only prevention is the most important cure against algae. When green algae are in your pond there is little you can do. It is true that many companies offer algae remedies, but I cannot recommend this method and do not even give you the names of these products. Chemicals work quickly and efficiently. However dead algae fall to the bottom and they decompose and become nutrient for new even more amount of algae. It is vicious cycle because chemicals need to be poured into the pond ever and again. It should be noted that contrary to what manufacturers write, these medicines damage aquatic plants very often.
Algae like all plants need light and nutrients to grow. By limiting these factors we limit the amount of algae in our pond.
