We can arrange our pond with such plants as floating plants, water lilies, plants completely submerged in water and marginal plants.
The floating plants are the easiest to take care of. We can just throw them on the surface of the water. Floating plants include such plants as Water Pineapple (Stratiotes aloides), Water Lettuce (Pistia stratiotes), Water Hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes), Hornwort (Ceratophyllum demersum).
Although Hornwort grows under the surface of water, we do not plant it into the ground. It floats freely in the water.
Water lilies are planted in baskets filled with clay. We set the baskets to the appropriate depth. Similarly we deal with a Yellow Floating Heart (Nymphoides pellata).
Plants grown in water are planted in pots filled with gravel or among stones. Such plants include Potamogeton, Elodea etc.
Marginal plants are planted in pots filled with gravel or between stones.
